STATUS/ACCOMPLISHMENTS The systems team focused on the subsystem data node (SDN) design and development effort this week by meeting with the various design leads to evaluate backplane design options as well as the technical and programmatic ramifications of each approach. A decision on a final SDN approach is expected within a week. In addition, a systems team configuration change request (CCR) to modify the minimum observatory insertion perigee from 185 km to 300 km was evaluated and approved by the project, significantly easing the observatory reaction wheel (RW) design requirements. In a related area, the RW trade study is nearing completion and is expected to result in a make/buy recommendation within the next week. The systems team also began discussions with members of the Independent Review Team (IRT) on opportunities to meet and discuss areas where further information and discussion was requested. For the instruments, we held a telecon with EVE and went over coordination details including the need to provide more task detail in their proposed early procurement of MIT Lincoln Labs SOW for their CCDs. The SDO Instrument Systems Mgr. sat in on the STEREO Project's programmatics meeting with NRL SECCHI. I thank STEREO for the invitation. The System Assurance team attended the mission success criteria meeting, where the SDO Project Scientist presented the updated requirements matrix. This matrix shows the importance of each instrument sensor relative to their contribution in addressing each of the science questions. It also defines the percentage contribution necessary for full and minimum mission success. The matrix will be useful in the development of mission level fault trees and reliability block diagrams. In addition, the reliability group developed a fault tree based on the current design configuration of the propulsion system. In the area of CM, we held our second CCB and approved the following CCRs: Mission Assurance Requirements (MAR) document; & the increase perigee altitude at separation from 185 km to 300km). After I sign the SDO MAR, it will be forwarded to Wentworth Denoon (Code 300 director) for signature. The Integrated Independent Review Plan (GSFC SDO document) was also approved by GSFC Codes 400 & 100.
