STATUS/ACCOMPLISHMENTS We successfully completed our internal project status review (cost, schedule, technical) with each SDO subsystem lead. The systems team concluded their work investigating the Subsys Data Node (SDN) backplane implementation options by selecting the cPCI backplane as the SDN baseline. The next step is for the team to generate a clear development and support MOU between the project and the technical support organizations to ensure all SDN subsystems have a clear technical path and support agreement towards cCPI implementation. In other areas, the update to the data capture budget is nearly complete, with the goal of distributing this information for final review to the SDO team prior to baselining thru CM. In addition, the system team compiled and forwarded documentation concerning SDO SCR RFAs (Single point failures, reliability, deployables) to members of the Independent Review Team for review and in preparation for a meeting at GSFC later in the month. The ground system team put out an RFI for the Viterbi decoders, a critical part of the Data Distribution System (DDS) front end processing design. The team also contacted possible vendors and suppliers to help ensure a good response to the RFI. We also received approval for the first Mission Operations Center (MOC) space modification from the space utilization committee. This modification is the rotation of the MOC floor plan by 90 degrees to better facilitate equipment design/layout. Additionally, the ground system team has continued to make progress on the development schedule, Operations Concept Document (OCD), and the Detailed Mission Requirements Document (DMR). On the Education & Public Outreach front, we have partnered with the Chesapeake Children's Museum (CCM). Our first event/effort was this past Wednesday when we supported the Annapolis Public Works Expo. We had our NASA Banner along with several images from SOHO displayed on our table to show students and generate conversation about the Sun and why we need to learn more about it to benefit our lives etc... In addition to talking about NASA and explaining how the Sun Spotters work, our SDO team assisted students in making Sun Catchers. The Mayor of Annapolis was there as well as several folks from different local papers. The Director of Public Works also gave us a mention during her luncheon awards ceremony. Debbie Wood, the museum director, is very excited to be working with us and believes that NASA will be a wonderful resource for CCM. I thank Barbara & Terri for a job well done. We will be supporting future community outreach efforts in conjunction with the Museum's programs. In the area of CM, we officially released the GSFC Integrated Independent Review Plan and the Mission Assurance Requirements Document which were both approved by the Center & Code 300 respectively.
