We completed the GSFC ICRR for the IRT Independent Cost Estimate. We will be working a few actions from the meeting in preparation for the 3 meetings next week. The systems team continued working with the various subsystem teams in the SDN and SPN development process. After consultation with the power systems team, the Systems team accepted their recommendation to split the SPN design into two separate cards. In addition, multiple meetings were held to address the cPCI backplane implementation approach, meeting and consulting with the various users from the assorted subsystem disciplines and line organizations for their inputs. The SDO parts, radiation, and systems teams held the first of a planned series of weekly meetings to formalize and document the ongoing parts development flow and parts sections and documentation database. The systems team led a detailed technical interchange telecon with multiple members of the IRT in order to address detailed post-SCR design and implementation questions both as part of the ICR process and in advanced planning for the SDO PDR at the end of the calendar year. Finally, the SDO systems team is drafting a consolidated list of PDR guidelines and metrics for preliminary distribution to the project and IRT. In addition the Power/Battery team, continues to evaluate testing of the JSB 100 amp-hr test battery and the AEA 80 amp-hr test battery. For the Instruments, we conducted a series of ICD review meetings with the EVE instrument team & they went very well. The C&DH, high speed bus, mechanical, thermal, and electrical systems interface requirements were reviewed line by line. Comments and corrections will be updated and the next release is scheduled in a couple of weeks. HMI is scheduled to visit GSFC for their second round of ICD discussions September 9 -10. An ICD session will be set up with the SHARPP team in early September. Tentative plans were discussed about the need for a similar ICD session for the Mission Ops Center to Science Ops Center ICD. Instead of conducting these conversations individually with each instrument team, a joint session at GSFC will be set up (probably in late September). Barbara Thompson and the SDO E/PO staff conducted very successful workshops so that project personnel could gain a better understanding of NASA's Education Enterprise and to generate excitement for the LWS and SDO E/PO programs. Specifically, these workshops provided the tools and resources necessary to conduct successful and rewarding outreach experiences. Agenda items included guest speakers who shared their lessons learned for doing classroom and community presentations, demonstrations of "canned" presentations and available resources already developed by NASA's E/PO community, and lots of hands-on activities using sunspotters, spectroscopes, UV Beads and magnetometers that could be easily integrated into a classroom. For those who could not attend, future workshops will be scheduled to encourage everyone to help inspire the next generation! Thanks, Ken
