We successfully conducted the ICRR summary with GSFC Center Director, Al Diaz, and the ICR walk thru with the Code S Deputy AA, Chris Scolese. The discussions from these meetings are being incorporated into the presentation for next week's ICR. The weekly systems team meeting focused on the SDO deployment concept development efforts, with presentations on both a proposed deployment concept from the mechanical team and a brief overview of the discussions thus far on the electrical aspect of deployment (deployment sequencing, reqs, and summarizing the discussion on these so far). The systems team has also been preparing for a Code 500 AETD -requested meeting to briefly present an overview of the SDO architecture and process in comparison with the GPM architecture and examine development and commonality topics. We also had an excellent month in the area of Risk Management with several risks mitigated/closed via the completion of the Propulsion System & Reaction Wheel trades/selections. The GN&C team presented the results of their reaction wheel make / buy trade study to the Project. This study was previously peer reviewed by outside independent experts, and provides a foundation for determining how SDO's stringent jitter requirements can be met. It was agreed by all that the study provided sufficient information to show that reaction wheels could be procured that will meet SDO requirements. Thanks to the GN&C team for their perseverance in completing this difficult trade. The C&DH, Radiation, and GSE teams have done an excellent job in a coordinated effort to rapidly generate test plans, procedures, and test setups required for critical parts radiation testing in August and September. These important tests will verify the radiation characteristics of the ATMEL 1355 SpaceWire ASIC and the UTMC LVDS Serializer and are critical in helping to determine whether they can be used in the SDO flight designs. Work is still ongoing in defining the Subsystem Data Node (SDN) design and resolving SDN requirements and design/implementation issues. Meetings were held with the SDN team to track progress, and determine schedule and budget needs for breadboards. For the Instruments, the draft Statement of Work and CDRL listing for the follow on Phase BCDE contracts was completed and released for review. Most comments returned to date are relatively minor and very workable. The contract preparations timeline is being reviewed with the SDO Contracting Officer. We are working to extend the existing Bridge Phase contracts in order to provide the necessary time for establishing the follow-on contracts. The instrument teams continue to work ICD interface items. The CCD mask sets have been received at e2v and processing has begun on both the thin and thick gate batches. RAL continues its design of the electronics with emphasis on parts availability and ASIC development. The SDO project agreed to have LMSAL engineer, procure, and deliver the electronic parts for the cameras. LMSAL also reported that the Technical Assistance Agreements have been approved by DOD and are at the State Department for approval. An agenda has been created for the ICD and Program Meeting with HMI for September 9 and 10 visit by HMI to GSFC. The Ground System team completed their System Requirement Review (SRR) package this week. The project is working with the SRR Board Chairman in establishing a late September data. The Memo Of Understanding (MOU) between the White Sands Complex (WSC) and Goddard is complete and in review. This MOU establishes the guidelines for use of the two antenna sites/locations at WSC to support the SDO mission. Finally, work continues to finalize the draft of the Detailed Mission Requirements Document (DMR) and Operations Concept Document (OCD) prior to the SRR in late September. In the area of CM & Project Support, the team: prepared for and held the CCB meeting to approve the Data Capture Budget CCR (SDO-CCR-017); worked long hours reproducing material for the ICRR meetings; coordinated office moves for 4 SDO employees; started developing GSFC SDO Statements of Work for submittal to appropriate organizations as a first step in this year's exercise. Have a Fun & Safe Holiday weekend, Ken
