The systems team continued support for the preparation and participation for Subsystem and instrument PDRs. In addition to reviewing requirements documents and specifications as part of PDR preparations, the systems team attended both the HGAS PDR & the C&DH bulk memory card peer review. Systems & Subsystems also attended the HMI PDR in Palo Alto, Ca. At the HMI PDR, we also held an Integration & Test splinter meeting to discuss pre-integration deliverables, integration flow, testing schedules, guidelines for testing, and types of tests required after HMI is integrated on the SDO Observatory. Finally, the systems team met with members of their own PDR review committee in preparation for the upcoming systems PDR next month. The Single Board Computer (SBC) RFO procurement package was released last week. This is the first major SDO procurement, and will provide SBC breadboard, ETU and flight units for SDO. The SDO Project met with the GSFC Logistics Transportation Management Branch to discuss preliminary arrangements for shipping SDO to the launch site. The HMI PDR was held in Palo Alto, CA on Nov 18 and 19th. The HMI team's preparation and hard work throughout the year paid off with a very successful PDR culminating with high praise from the PDR review team. Numerous SDO project members were at the HMI PDR to support the HMI team in their effort. SDO project members also participated in technical splinter meetings covering the Science Operations Center, HMI I&T at the Observatory level, and an AIA mechanical/thermal meeting. Programmatically, Barbara Fischer was named LMSAL HMI Deputy Project Manager, and a meeting held on Nov 20 resulted in a productive discussion on cost accounting for HMI and AIA common elements. I thank the entire Stanford & LMSAL team for an outstanding HMI PDR. After the completion of the EVE dry-run PDR last week, the EVE team is adjusting the agenda for the PDR on December 17-18 at LASP in Boulder. The EVE team has made good progress on the instrument design and will be ready for their PDR. On Monday (11/24), we will conduct a telecon with NASA HQ to discuss the replacement of the OFS portion of EVE with ESP and MEGS revisions. The revisions reduce instrument development risk while maintaining calibration goals of the EVE. Lastly, the EVE team delivered a preliminary parts list for our review and comment. The Video Imaging and Photographic Requirements (VIPR) development is progressing very well. We successfully conducted tests for the user authentication and ITAR sensitivity functions and performed demonstrations which included screen displays for the data entry & search/report functions. Authentic photographic images will be downloaded from the SDO server and tested with the VIPR system next week. SDO E/PO personnel attended the one year anniversary celebration for the Chesapeake Children's Museum in Annapolis, Maryland. This invitation only event provided exposure for NASA and SDO to museum board members, sponsors, and selected patrons. Special recognition goes to Jeanne Palmer who recently represented NASA/SDO at her middle school alma mater in South Dakota. The school administration was so thrilled with her presence that they shared her visit with the local news. Jeanne, an SDO engineer, and many of the 7th graders were featured on the front page of the local paper. In the area of CM & project Support, the team: processed & received approval for the 4 CCRs discussed at last week's CCB meeting (SDO-CCR-021: Solar Array Sizing, SDO-CCR-024: SPN Split, SDO-CCR-030: Mass and Power Reallocation, SDO-CCR-031: Baselining of SDO MRD0 and released the updated Mass and Power Budgets, as well as the MRD; released new Mass and Power Worksheets; attended Records Management Meeting held in B8 sponsored by the Logistics management Division - we currently have 286 records in the document portion of our database; tested and have provided comments on the intranet CCR module; met with systems to review the status of documents which are in the review cycle and those that have not yet been submitted for CM processing; completed manpower changes/corrections discussions with the branches supporting SDO as our final step in the Center's FY04 - FY09 Workforce Exercise; met with vendor designing offices in Building 29, Room 360, to arrange final details & submit the purchase request - we anticipate the offices to be completed by the end of January; & supported/updated keycard request forms, phone/e-mail lists, & travel database. Thanks, Ken Have a safe & happy Thanksgiving.
