From: Elizabeth A. Citrin To: huge list SDO Weekly Report for August 13, 2004 The Project Monthly meetings with the spacecraft subsystems were held this week. In addition, the first Ground System monthly was held; this will be a regular meeting held on the 2nd Monday of every month. Progress in most areas is good, including procurements. An Interface Working Group (IFWG) was held with HMI and AIA this week in Palo Alto. As part of the IFWG , the systems team is working with GN&C to help work out the remaining pointing and alignment issues in order to allow baselining of the SDO pointing and alignment budget in the near future. In addition, C&DH and systems is working with the instruments to clarify the High Speed Science bus (HSB) interface and work out details for HSB concept testing prior to SDO CDR. The parts team is meeting with in-house designers to finalize ETU/Flight parts lists to allow procurement of long lead parts in order to meet ETU/Flight build schedules. Progress is being made on the in-house Ka-band amplifier development effort, with the most recent breadboard testing indicating that Ka signal output requirements are being met with margin. The Ka band development team will be meeting with the Project to map out the next steps on the path towards flight development. The High Gain Antenna System (HGAS) Gimbal Actuator procurement was awarded to Starsys. Proposals were received and evaluation initiated for the HGAS ECRA and the Propulsion System Propellant Tank. Progress was made with testing of the Ka-Band SSPA Breadboard. Layout continued for the C&DH Ka Com Card, BMC, and DC/DC Breadboards. The ACS RWI and PSE SDN Breadboards were in assembly. The Mechanical team received a coupled loads analysis from KSC. A Project Monthly meeting was held with all Spacecraft Subsystem Leads and Instrument Managers to review schedule and budget progress. The ground system has taken possession of the second Data Distribution System (DDS) Front End Processor (FEP) and is in the process of test and evaluation of the unit (manufactured by IN SNEC). The first FEP, the TSI unit, is available for spacecraft support now. The RFP for the dual antenna network is in process, and the RF group has been handling some requests for clarification from industry. Both MOMS and NENS contracts have been modified to add additional manpower needed to support both ground system development and spacecraft I&T. EVE conducted peer reviews this week on the Power Services Board and LVPC Designs. PCB layout and BB fabrication will begin shortly. Greg Ucker responded to 8 of 11 contamination RFAs from the SDO Contamination Peer Review. EVE will respond to the the remaining RFAs including the BOL requirements later this month. -- Liz Citrin SDO Project Manager 301-286-1222 FAX 301-286-0214 Cell 410-241-0503
